I picked up this strange item on Ebay about a year ago, for a hefty sum of US$50. Based on the date of release (1998), its clear that this product was released before all 4 Episodes of the OVA were shown, and the contents of this package only confirmed this. This DVD sized package contains the following:

  • A mousepad with Kino and a cigarette-smoking Hayami picture on the surface.
  • A keychain, which did NOT come in the package I bought. Damn you seller! 😛
  • A hybrid CDROM with a self-launching program; compatible with Win 95/98, Mac, and after self-testing, Win XP and Vista as well. This CDROM is filled with unique goodies:
    • Voiceclips of Kino and Hayami that is meant to spice up your desktop (replacing the traditional Windows sounds, beeps and dings). Looks like its the same voice actors they used for these sound clips. They’re all in Japanese, but pretty cute to hear.
    • Various Desktop wallpapers and screensavers, some of which are high quality screenshots taken from EP1 of the OVA only.
    • A 3D model viewer program where you can examine in detail Blue 6, and take snapshots.
    • A graphics viewer, which lets you flip through more images of EP1
    • A promotional 3 minute video of BS6 & EP1, and some previews of the remaining 3 episodes. Apple Quicktime required. Pretty unique.

Overall, is a decent buy if you’re a collector of BS6 items, but the contents aren’t too impressive. The desktop accessories package can still be found occasionally on relevant auction sites, but they tend to be bought up rather quickly. Item price seems to be anywhere from 3000 – 8000YEN.

  1. What are some of the wallpapers like?

  2. Hmm not sure what else to say without repeating the above 😛 Some are screenshots from EP1, while others are from the standard official BS6 artwork by Range Murata and co. Not missing alot really.
