X (Blue X.) & Granova

  • Role: Rogue Submarine; Former Blue Fleet Sub
  • Color(s): Black
  • Status after the Game: Destroyed in a suicide run

Based on my limited understanding of the BS6: Time & Tide Game’s plot, the X was originally a part of Blue Fleet, commandeered by an Admiral James Bayard. When Bayard decided to rebel against the the government of SSK city and Blue Fleet (in opposition to the supposed discrimination and oppression faced by the poorer inhabitants of SSK city), his sub was defeated in a battle against SSK forces and Blue Fleet. Bayard’s story is somewhat similar to Captain Nemo of 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, with the X being equivalent to the Nautilus.

It wasn’t destroyed however; just apparently crippled. Bayard escaped and the X laid dormant on some part of the ocean surface, until it was called to battle again many years later, after Bayard had obtained the keys required to reactivate the submarine.

The X is a powerful sub that can launch numerous unmanned fighting drones (counted at least 8), and carries a powerful AI ‘Brain’. However, because it was already damaged before in the earlier battle years ago, it was eventually overwhelmed by the Ghost Ship. In his final act, Bayard unleashed the Granova rocket submarine from within X, and succeeded in a suicide run against the Ghost Ship. Bayard may have originally intended to use Granova against SSK city (not sure).
